Mother's Day Special

Hi Everyone, Signs that spring is finally here, the daffodils are blooming, maple sugaring is over, and Andrew is cleaning out the flower beds and the yard.  I am starting to plan our container flower pots. I am also going to offer a Mother’s Day special. Buy a gift certificate from Seymour House for your special Mom and when she uses it we will provide a bouquet of flowers in her room at no extra cost to brighten her days with us. We are looking forward to our  8th season here, can’t for it to begin.  Patty

Spring is on the way

We’ve started to tap our Maple trees, so I know spring is on the way. The daffodils are pushing up through the snow. Thank goodness they are so hardy. I’m starting to think about what flowers I will add to our flower gardens. Mike and I are planning on expanding our herb garden this year. We are almost ready for St. Patrick’s Day. Mike has a beautiful beef brisket that we are corning. We use Julia Child’s recipe and it always turns out great. I am ready for an Irish Boiled dinner for Sunday. Hope all of you have a fun and tasty St. Pats day.

Winter at Semour House

Hi Everyone

We had a fun Valintines weekend. We indulged in truffles in every room. Some of our guests enjoyed in cross country skiingon our trails through the woods.  They were excited to see many birds and deer. Other of our guests spent time sitting by the fireplace reading or watching movies. The snow let up on Sunday so everyone had a safe journey home.  Its snowing again today.  We are supposed to get another 3-5 inches. Inside the Inn my kitchen is keeping me warm. I'm making jams and breads. I'm perfecting a new techniqe for making artesional breads.  I also developed a new jam, cherry almaretto preserves. It went over big with guests this weekend so its a keeper recipe. This weekend to come we will be tapping our maple trees, weather permitting.  Talk to you next week. Patty

Valentines and Maple Sugaring

Seymour House blog 2013

Well it’s been a crazy week. freezing cold then rain and thunderstorms last night.  That’s ok because we have a return of winter by the end of the week. I really prefer snow to mud.   This weekend is South Havens Icebreaker and it looks like the weather will cooperate.  With the beginning of February we not only look forward to Valentines but also start to prepare for tapping the maple trees. This usually occurs at the end of February and beginning of March. We look for days that are 40 degrees and nights that go down to the 20’s. Come join us to see Mike tap the trees and collect the sap. My grandchildren look forward to it every year. Don’t forget  to bring your loved one for Valentines.  I have a great menu for the afternoon get together.  I start decorating the Inn this week.  Talk to all next week.  Patty at Seymour House

New birds!

Hello all, I again apologize for the lateness of the update, crazy autumn season!  I am in the process of ordering new birds for spring!  We are ordering some new baby chicks, going to get some different breeds this year.  Black giants, Partridge rock (a really pretty bird) as well as some of our old standby's.  We are also ordering geese, at least a couple of Toulouse geese to help keep the raccoons and coyotes out of the chicken yard, lost 17 hens in one night this past year to those critters!.  May also order some more ducks and a couple of white chinese geese.  We think these new birds will be fun so come on out and see them.  I promise to put the delivery date on the web site so you can come visit and welcome the new babies!  They are just little bundles of fuzz!

Watch here in the next day or so for more info on New Year's eve and other events for the winter.  I promise to do a better job of updating!

This past summer!

Whoooow!  What a summer!  Thanks to everyone for making it such a success!  I would like to follow that up with an apology for not keeping the blog up to date but there was simply not time!  I haven't even been able to keep up with my day to day paperwork.  With kids going back to school and such, things we are starting to catch up here!  Well enough about that.

We hope that all of you had as successful a summer as we did and would like to fill you in on a few things that have been happening around here.  The 1954 Farmall cub blew the head gasket the other day so is "in the shop," it had been running great right up until then but...  We took the 25 chicks for the table in for butcher and they are delicious!  The 16 laying hens are 13 weeks old now and will be able to move into the general population in about 5 weeks and should start laying eggs in about 7 weeks which is good, as coyotes got into the hen house and absconded with all of the laying hens but 5, so we are reduced to having to buy eggs from the neighbor who also has pastured chickens.   The unknown exotic chicken that was delivered is a rooster and he is gorgeous!  He is a "White Crested Black Polish" rooster.  Donald and Daisy duck are doing fine and Daisy is back to laying one egg every day.  The cats are doing fine.

We recently changed the decorations in Patty's Garden and will be remodeling the bathroom in a few weeks; it will have a two person shower and will lose the clawfoot tub.  We are excited about this change.
